Online entrepreneurship requires adopting the right mindset. I stated in my first article that patience and perseverance are essential to success online. You also have to think like an entrepreneur and take your business seriously.
If you are looking for a get-rich-quick deal then this is the wrong website for you. The goal here is to educate you, train you, and provide you with the necessary tools and resources to help you succeed in your very own online business. Let me also state that I can in no way guarantee your success, only you can do that. What I will promise you is that I will do my very best to assist you on your journey to succeed online.
Online Entrepreneurship – The Right Mindset
What does it mean to have an entrepreneurial mindset? Well, first let’s define what is an entrepreneurial mindset. It can be defined as a thought process that overcomes challenges, perseveres, takes decisive actions, allows for risk-taking, and takes responsibility for failures as well as success.
You can find many studies and essays in what it takes to have an entrepreneurial mindset but one thing is for sure, nobody is born with it. It’s purely a result of nurture and environment. There are specific characteristics that define entrepreneurship, however, and it can be developed. Here are just a few:
- Self-motivation
- Discipline
- Passion
- Risk-taking
- Good money and time management
- Good business networking skills
- Flexibility
- Adaptability
I am not going to explore these characteristics in detail here because there is a vast amount of knowledge and information readily available. The important point is that to succeed online, as in any business endeavor, for most people, it takes a change in mindset. We are programmed to believe and accept the normal approaches to success. Obtain a formal high level of education and get the appropriate job. Nothing is wrong with this approach but it’s not the only way to succeed.
Developing the entrepreneurial mindset
I’m not going to spend time on this aspect of the mindset of online entrepreneurship because there’s really no need to. What is absolutely critical for success online is the determination to take the required action. Take stock and find out where you are weak and make changes. Do you need to be more disciplined in business building? Well, take action and devote more time. Do you need to manage your expenses better? Then develop a budget and stick to it. Don’t get bogged down in too much theory.
Get practical and get busy! And start by doing these few basic things to get rolling.
Stop
The first step to take on your journey along the online entrepreneurship path is to STOP buying. Yes, you read that right. STOP buying. I learned the hard way that when one is looking for a quick fix then all one does is spend hard-earned money on systems and programs and when those programs do not deliver in the short term then one moves on to the next get-rich-quick system.
STOP! Do not buy anything from any guru or expert until you take some time to learn a few things about online success. I don’t even want you to buy anything from me at this point, so put away your credit or debit card because you won’t need it for now. And yes, I did say for now because at some point you will have to invest money. Think about it, have you ever heard of any business succeeding without an investment of money? I am quite certain you haven’t.

Resist Shiny Objects
I want you to remember that if you jump from the current “shiny object” to the next big thing without investing money, time and some hard work then you are guaranteed to fail. And make no mistake it does take some work, at least initially. Don’t worry, the work now will pay off in the near future. Eventually, your business will be automated to the point that things run with or without you. Okay, so that may be a bit of an exaggeration but you will have a lot more free time and money to enjoy your life and not be tied down by some dead-end job.
